ABOUT OUR POST

“The American Legion Iroquois Post 1587 is a Veteran Organization from the Seneca Nation Cattaraugus Territory, Irving NY.  Established by Native Warriors returning from World War II in 1946, they still remain active after 76 years fulfilling efforts toward Veteran Affairs, National Security & Preparedness, Student Achievement Initiatives, and Children & Youth Programs. They are well-known for their colorful traditional Ribbon Shirt uniforms.

MISSION STATEMENT

To revitalize Iroquois Post 1587 and Implement a 21st Century American Legion blueprint organization to ensure Officers & Members are trained and educated on Post operations to include Veteran outreach programs while improving the Quality-of-Life of Veterans, their families, youth, and community through dissemination of information and working in conjunction with Post Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion with emphasis on Veteran Affairs and Rehabilitation, National Securing & Preparedness, Americanism, and Children and Youth.

VETERANS AFFAIRS & REHABILITATION

This pillar is composed of programs, services and advocacy efforts that improved the Quality-of –Life of those who served, along with their families and dependents, after discharge from the military to include but not limited to:

➢ Veterans Education and GI Bill Assistance➢ Employment and Business Assistance➢ Combating the Claim Backlog➢ VA Volunteer Services➢ Board of Veterans Appeals➢ Discharge Review and Safeguard Registration➢ “Buddy Check” Program➢ Help for Veterans Facing Homelessness➢ Final Respects and Honors

NATIONAL SECURITY & PREPAREDNESS

To apply efforts to world peace and stability through strong values to support national defense, homeland security, border control and military deployment efforts include but not limited to:

➢ Military Quality of Life Improvements➢ Support for Tricare (Martin’s Point)➢ Disaster Preparedness➢ Operation Comfort Warrior➢ Border Security & Immigration ➢ National Emergency Fund➢ “Blue Star” Banner Program➢ Blood Donor Program➢ Full Accounting of POW/MIAs and Foreign Relations

Aims to improve Student achievement efforts and making a difference within our local communities to include but not limited to:

Guided by three main objectives to include but limited to strengthen the family unit, support organizations that help children in need, and provide communities with well-rounded programs to foster hope and opportunity for young people facing difficult challenges. (Other areas could include)

As a nonprofit organization we rely on your  generous donations to support our continuous community engagement efforts which includes: veteran affairs & rehabilitation; Active duty warriors outreach; student achievements; children & youth programs; veteran outreach programs, gravesite detail & registry; buddy-veteran checks; social outreach activities; honor guard & color guard; and numerous other events in which this Post is active in (MJC Pow-Wow, Falling Leaves Festival, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Vietnam Conmemoration Day, and many more) - All which is done by a volunteer force of Legionnaires of Iroquois Post 1587.
